Mixed-Race Mixtape is a new Hip-Hop theatre performance that fuses live instrumentals, rap, monologue and movement to start conversations about some of today's most complex issues: identity, race and class.
Fig, our narrator, is a young, mixed-race Latino man. Through his eyes, we watch as he faces challenges unique to those whose lives are impacted by race everyday through interactions with police, teachers, friends and family.
Blending theatre and Hip-Hop, Mixed-Race Mixtape is a fun, interactive performance that makes difficult topics relatable, stirring and vivid while asking "What is it like being ‘ambiguously brown’? How can you navigate the world as a person of color and feel proud, authentic and safe? What does it mean to be authentic? Who am I to me?"
